Project Summary:
EH Smith, Winners of "Best Material Supplier to the Architectural Industry" for this project.
Situated on the banks of the Thames opposite the Tate Modern Art Gallery and set against the famous backdrop of St. Paul Cathedral, Sir John Lyon House is a striking new residential development.
The surrounding area is a mix between the traditional brick developments and modern office buildings using materials predominately glass. We worked with the architect to provide a project that could stand out, whilst blending into the current urban fabric. This was achieved with consultation with the architect to develop the original idea via samples, this resulted in 5 colours moving though several colours and shades.
We are delighted to annouce that we were awarded the accolade of "Best Material Supplier to the Architectural Industry" at the prestigious LEAF Awards at the Waldorf Hilton in London on Thursday 29th November for this development.
The award, which focuses on innovation, reliability and best practice, was awarded for EH Smith's work on Sir John Lyon House in London. Sir John Lyon House has not only fitted into the surrounding area, blending in with both the modern and classic architecture, but has also enhanced the appearance of an iconic area for years to come.
David Roberts, Divisional Director for EH Smith commented "We are absolutely delighted to receive this coveted award. Sir John Lyon House was an excellent project which showcases the materials to the highest level. We have always prided ourselves on providing an industry leading service, delivering the highest quality materials - this award confirms that we are on the right track!"
Peter Wilson, Managing Director for Agrob Buchtal commented "Sir John Lyon House is a fine example of our rainscreen cladding product. It has been a priviledge for us to be involved in such a prestigious project for which now an architectural prize has been awarded."
"EH Smith have been a long term customer of ours, helping to promote our brand and our products in the UK. They have demonstrated once again their competence in this field by researching the needs of the planner and providing the appropriate advice to enable the project to be realised."
The transition though the colours is a fine example of the versatility of the rainscreen cladding; if desired a different colour for each tile or even different colours within a single tile can be achieved, allowing freehand designs used for a large scale project. Currently 15,000 colours can be chosen from.
The material used in the project is the special K12 Buchtal Keratwin Terracotta Rainscreen system. EH Smith are the sole UK distributers of this material. There are many other systems available, all with their own unique advantages which can be adapted for any project.
Sir John Lyon house has not only fitted into the surrounding area, blending in with both modern and classic building, but has raised the appearance of an iconic area now and into the future.
