Commercial Solar PV

You may think the image above is of a building in America, Spain or Germany, but this building is actually in the UK. The 3500 m2 solar office building is at the Doxford International Business Park near Sunderland and it incorporates 646 m2 of photovoltaic modules. These have a peak power output of 73 kW and generate some 55,000 kWh of electricity per year. The building is well insulated and uses passive solar design to maximise the use of natural daylight and to minimise space heating and air conditioning needs. It is also designed for natural ventilation and night-time cooling. 

Most surprisingly, it was completed in 1998! Using Schüco PV, this project shows the versatility of Solar Photovoltaics.

Building Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV)

PV doesn't have to be ugly... One of the benefits of the Schüco system is that it can integrate with the building facade as the images below demonstrate:
