Sustainability

Each Porotherm block is a precision engineered, vertically perforated walling unit made from clay prepared with a minimum of 20% recycled materials.

The clay is shaped, dried and fired at approximately 1000°C. At this temperature the recycled materials, for example sawdust, burn away without residue leaving innumerable connecting pores, part of the 'secret' to the thermal insulation of Porotherm clay block. The air which is trapped in these small pores leads to Porotherm's unique permeability and thermal characteristics providing the ability to regulate humidity and provide a healthy living climate.

A Porotherm clay block absorbs natural energy from the sun as well as heat that originates in the house. It releases the absorbed heat back into the room air at a later point in time saving energy. Porotherm can also help balance out any temperature variations by the absorption and release of heat. For example, in the winter, your house remains comfortably warm whilst in the summer, pleasantly cool; thereby saving on heating costs. Porotherm clay blocks also help absorb interior moisture and release it again quickly. This means that the wall surfaces not only remain dry in every season but ensures a comfortable room climate is achieved.

With the Porotherm clay block system there is also reduced material consumption (low mortar use for example). This means that builders and construction professionals are able to achieve maximum build volume for minimum material use. When combined with the shorter construction times, builders can create accurate, clean and homogenous walls; fast.
